Kulapat Yantrasast, Architect | Museum House
Kulapat Yantrasast’s 2460 Beverley Avenue in Santa Monica is a rare modern residence featuring cedar fins, expansive ocean views, and refined custom design.
Designed by Kulapat Yantrasast of WHY Architecture, 2460 Beverley Avenue is a rare residential work by an architect known internationally for cultural and museum projects.
Located in Santa Monica, the two-story residence is defined by natural light, custom detailing, and a strong connection to the coastal environment. Cedar fins wrap portions of the exterior, while a large Schweiss industrial bi-fold window opens the west side of the house almost completely to ocean air and light, transforming the relationship between interior and exterior space.
The open plan is organized around a series of highly specific architectural elements, including a monumental custom front door, flush interior doors, and a suspended open-riser staircase that allows light and views to move through the center of the house. Materials and details are handled with restraint, creating an interior that feels both precise and unusually open.
A rooftop deck extends the living space vertically and provides panoramic views toward the Pacific.
Yantrasast, founder and creative director of WHY Architecture and a longtime protégé of Tadao Ando, is best known for major cultural commissions, making this one of the relatively few private residences associated with his practice.
The result is a highly individual Los Angeles residence shaped by structure, light, craft, and openness rather than conventional domestic planning.
